January 1992
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the membeship for allowing me to serve
as your President for the upcoming uear. I look forward to working with eveyone in expanding
the Chesapeake Bay Division in the various disciplines that make up the science of
forensic identification. Proposals were made, to the Parent Body in St. Lous, to add
Arson/Fire investigation, Accident Reconstruction and those in the Medical Examiners Offices,
to the list of disciplines. It will be a major effort, on my part, to secure representatives,
of these newly-acquired disciplines, into the Division. I would ask those of you who are
acquainted with members of these groups, to talk to them, explain what we are about,
and invite them to become members. Their presence can only work to the advantage of all
concerned and further increase the professional image of the CBD.
The conference, in Ocean City, was well attended despite the fact that Mother Nature made
access ot O.C., on Thursday night, questionable. A big storm, off the coast caused very high
tides and a lot of flooded highways.
The Spring 1992 Conference will be conducted at the Holiday Inn Solomons, Maryland. It is
a beautiful facility situated within a cove on the Patuxent River. The menus are pretty
well established and will include a Hawaiian theme supper on Friday night. We are working
on the program, at this time, and look forward to an informative and very interesting
conference. I know that we are all being affected by various budgetary cuts and difficult
financial times. With this in mind, start planning now for the Spring Conference. Register
as early as you can and reserve your room as soon as you can. The hotel has assured me
they will have ample rooms, on hand, but will stay close to the cut-off date. Don't
be caught short.
Jan and I are looking forward to seeing you all, in the Spring.
August 1992
Thanks to all of you who were able to attend the conference in Solomons. An interesting
program had a lot to do with easing the impact of less-than-desirable weather (heavy rain).
Everyone there appeared to have a good time.
The Parent Body conference on June 28 through July 2 was interesting. As you may know, it
was held in the Trump Taj Mahal and was attended by over 700 people. The CBD had a great
showing with about 30 members and spouses registerd. Congratulations are in order for a
number of our membership. Danny Greathouse (FBI) and Coy Burns (Secret Service) were re-elected
to the Board of Directors, and Jeff Thompson (CBD member and President of the NJ Division)
was elected to the Board. In addition, Past-President of the CBD, Curtis Shane was elected
to the office of President. Well done to all.
Congratulations are also in order for Maria Lyons, First VP of CBD. Maria was first recipient
of a Robert L. Johnson Scholarship and, on June 5th of this year, received her B.S. degree
from the University of Delaware. The Johnson Scholarship is named after an individual who was
a Vice-President of the Parent Body and, while President of the CBD, died. It is a worthy
cause and all are urged to support it. For further information, contact any of the Officers of
the CBD.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support and assistance during my
tenure as President of the Division. You have all made the job a pleasure, and it is greatly
appreciated.
Jan and I look forward to seeing everyone in Aberdeen. Registration and hotel information
appear in this issue of the Examiner, and you are urged to register early. I have
been advised that numerous Officers of the Parent Body are planning to attend, so this could
be an opportunity to meet them.
