First of all, I would like to thank everyone for all the pledges of help and support that I received at the Fall Conference in Salisbury. A special personal thanks to Clarence Phillips for performing the Installation Ceremony for me and, also, congratulations on winning the Lillian U. Jenkins Award.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the people who were elected to the various positions in the Division. I look forward to working with all of you in managing the affairs of the CBD.
I have made some appointments to the various committees and I would like to thank those who have accepted. I have asked Wally Forst to remain on the Conference Planning and Sylvia Buffington to remain on the Conference Program Committee. Byers Dowdell has accepted a position on the Latent Print Certification Board. Joe Scerra, Tank Evans and Robert Walls have agreed to serve on the Editorial Committee. Carol Edelen, our 1st VP, and Tom Gummere have agreed to stay on as members of the Financial Committee. Lastly, I have appointed Maria Lyons to be our Regional Representative. The list of all committee members appears on the inside front cover of this publication. To the new people and to those who have served and are still serving, I thank you for your support. I would urge the new members of the Editorial Committee to contact Barbara Pase with any information about articles for publication in the Examiner. Barbara is doing an outstanding job for our Division, however, she does need input from the membership to keep the Examiner as interesting and informative as possible.
When I was elected to the office of 3rd VP three years ago, and although I had served on the Board of Directors for several years, I had a lot to learn about how the organization ran, and I relied on the help of a lot of people for guidance and information. Everyone I called upon was very helpful. I am still calling on people and asking for help and advice. I hope that in the coming year we have more people expressing a desire to become active in the affairs of the Division. You are a member of one of the best Divisions in the IAI. Continue this tradition by becoming involved; make your views known. It does take effort to make the CBD function well, but the results are worth it. Help us to make this great organization to become even better.
I look forward to the conference in Richmond. I know Ken Smith has a very informative program lined up. The hotel facility is really wonderful, and for after-hours there are some neat places at Shockoe Slip. That's why, for this conference, I thought it would be a good idea to have Friday night on our own. It should be a great opportunity to explore Shockoe Slip's many fine restaurants and gift/craft shops.
Of course, later in the evening, I have asked Craig and Cathy Rich if they would accommodate us in the Hospitality Suite, and they have graciously accepted.
For our Saturday night meal in Richmond, I have chosen the Chicken Cordon Bleu. If anyone has a need for a Kosher meal or special dietary request, please let me know as soon as possible, and I will try my best to accommodate you.
After taking with Tim Hahn and Ken Smith, it looks as if Richmond is shaping up to be a great conference. I am looking forward to seeing all of you there.

First of all, I would like to thank all the members who attended the Spring Conference in Richmond, VA. You helped make it one of the best attended conferences in recent times. Ken Smith prepared an excellent program, and Tim Hahn had a great Vendor turn-out. Thanks again to all those people whose hard work made this terrific conference possible, your efforts were greatly appreciated.
We have another great Fall Conference planned for November in Ocean City, MD. Ken Smith has another excellent program, and I am sure everyone will be pleased with the facility and the food.
Please keep in mind that our elections will be held at the Fall Conference. I would like to encourage each and every one of you to give some consideration to running for an elected office. As I have said before, we have a great organization, but it does take effort to make it function well. The Nominating Committee has come up with new guidelines for those wishing to run for office. These guidelines are explained elsewhere in this edition of the Examiner. Please take the time to read them over and if you have any comments or questions, please make them known as soon as possible.
Don't forget to make your reservations EARLY for the Fall Conference. We had several disappointed people in Richmond because there were not rooms left after the cut-off date.
I'm looking forward to seeing you in Ocean City.
