IAI Resolution #7
The International Association for Identification (IAI) adopted in 1973 the findings of its Standardization Committee. This committee conducted a three year research project into the question of establishing minimum standards for friction ridge characteristics.
IAI Resolution #7 states the following:
"There is no valid scientific basis for requiring a minimum number of ridge characteristics which must be present in two fingerprints in order to establish positive identification."
