Spring 1998
I would like to thank all of you for the support and confidence I received at the Fall Conference. I would especially like to thank Carmine Artone for acting as the Installation Officer at the Fall Conference, he did an excellent job as usual.
I would also like to commend our out-going President, Tim Hahn, for hosting two excellent conferences, which set new records for attendance. Tim has been a true asset to the CBD for many years and is now taking on even more responsibility by becoming our newly elected Secretary/Treasurer. This kind of dedication is rare, and is greatly appreciated.
I would also like to congratulate the CBD members who were elected to the various Division offices and the members who I appointed to the various Division committees. It would be impossible to accomplish the tasks of the Division without the essential assistance that is provided by these individuals. I look forward to working with all of you throughout the coming year. The list of all committee members and officers appears on the inside front cover of this publication. Please direct any questions or suggestions that you may have to the Chairperson of the respective committees.
As you know, our Editor, Barbara Pase has decided not to run for office next year. Barbara has done an outstanding job for many years as the CBD's Editor. This is a very crucial position and demands a lot of time and dedication. On behalf fo the CBD-IAI, I would like to extend to Barbara out grateful appreciation for your years of tireless service in making the "Chesapeake Examiner" a publication that we can all be proud of.
I would like to remind all of you that this is your Division and it is incumbent upon you to see that the needs of the CBD are met. The duties of the Division are spread out throughout the many offices and committees, so that no "one" individual is over burdened. We should all have the desire to serve, and I would encourage all of you to seek to help your Division by serving in one of these positions. I assure you, you will enjoy the experience, and the opportunity to work with some of the finest people in our profession.
I am looking forward to hosting this year's conferences, and I hope that you will enjoy them. The Spring Conference will be held at the Hyatt Richmond at Brookfield. The hotel is located northwest of downtown Richmond, directly off Interstate 64. This is an excellent facility with large meeting rooms. Mark Neal, our Second Vice-President has lined up a diverse and informative speaker program, which ensures to make this conference a huge success. The Fall Conference will be held at the Dunes Manor in Ocean City, Maryland. This is a hotel that we have used several times before and happens to be my personal favorite, what can I say, I like waking up in the morning to a beautiful, peaceful ocean view. I'm sure you will too. Well, that's all for now, I HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL IN RICHMOND.
P.S. Yes! My wife and boys will be in attendance in Richmond, so it will be completely unnecessary for you to supply another (hairy) escort!
Fall 1998
Greetings. I would like to thank all of you who attended the Spring Conference in Richmond, Virginia. I would like to extend a special thanks to Second Vice-President Mark Neal, and Third Vice-President Jimmy Simms for their tireless efforts and assistance in making the Spring Conference a success. Mark arranged an excellent speakers' program, which was well received and Jimmy Simms, as our newest Vice-President, demonstrated his superior organizational skills by putting together an outstanding group of vendors, who as you know, are a vital part of a successful conference.
On behalf of our membership I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our long time Editor, Barbara Pase, for her outstanding dedication to the Chesapeake Bay Division by professionally preparing, twice a year, our Division's publication, the "Chesapeake Examiner". Barb has decided not to run for office this year, and I know her skills and abilities as Editor will be greatly missed. Again, thanks Barb for your many, many years of dedicated service to the Chesapeake Bay Division.
We had a good turnout from the Chesapeake Bay Division at the 83rd IAI Educational Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas. There were many interesting lectures and workshops to attend. As usual, the CBD was well represented as officers of the parent body. Norm Smith, Allyson Simons, Ron Smith and Danny Carter were elected to the Board of Directors and Cary Chapman was elected as Historian.
I would especially like to thank Jimmy Simms and R. C. Bartley for hosting our hospitality suite at the International, they did an excellent job. Dispensing hospitality is definitely one of their strong points.
The upcoming CBD-IAI Fall Educational Conference will be held in Ocean City, Maryland at the Dunes Manor Hotel on November 6th and 7th. This is an excellent hotel, which the CBD has frequented several times before. Everyone gets an Oceanfront room! The guaranteed room rates are available until October 1, 1998, so get your reservation form in early. As an added incentive, the 23rd registrant will win a $100 cash prize, to be awarded at the banquet on Saturday. Remember, the Fall Conference is our installation conference and I would encourage all our faithful members to contemplate running for a Division office, I assure you, you will be glad you did.
My term as President is quickly coming to an end; my time in office has been an enjoyable one, due mostly to all the support that I have been extended by the CBD Officers and members. Your help has been greatly appreciated. Thank you all.
See you in Ocean City!
