Spring 2000
I hope you all enjoyed a safe and happy holiday seasons, and the dreaded Y2K did not affect you in any adverse way. I would like to extend a personal thanks to all the people who have supported me and have been there to help. I want you to know you are truly a group of talented and dedicated people, and I am blessed by my association with you.
A special thanks to Mike Grimm for his leadership and making it so much easier for me to assume my duties as President. I find myself constantly calling upon him, and will continue to do so.
This is a busy year for all of us. We have our upcoming conference in Martinsburg, and it looks like we will be able to have some workshops on Thursday and a full slate for the weekend. I think you will like the Holiday Inn, as it has a very nice restaurant, club and a large fitness facility. The hotel is also adjacent to numerous shopping outlets.
As you know, we are the host division for the 85th International Conference in Charleston, West Virginia. I truly believe the attendees will find Charleston to be a wonderful destination. The Chesapeake Bay people, the Charleston Convention Bureau, and the entire State of West Virginia are working to make this a special event.
We also have many important matters to face this year, such as the vote on the number of meetings. I realize the membership is split on this issue, and I want you to know that however this turns out, we need to continue to work together to be successful. I will be there for you as you have always been there for me. We may disagree from time to time, but the CBD is a family and families stick together when it counts.
Fall 2000
I am very proud to say that the 85th Annual Educational Conference of the International Association for Identification was an overwhelming success. I want to especially thank the Chesapeake Bay members who worked so hard to make it a reality. I have heard nothing but praise for your efforts and dedication. It was almost a two-year process with all the planning that had to be worked out, but, the end result was well worth it. The Chesapeake Bay Division also owes a special debt of gratitude to the forensic students from the West Virginia and Marshall Universities. They did an absolutely wonderful job in registration.
It's hard for me to believe that my term as President is about to come to an end. As I have said before, it 's been a labor of love. I have had the opportunity to work with the best people and the best Division in the IAI. We have a cross section of the finest individuals the country has to offer, and I have ben blessed with my association with you.
The fall conference at Glade Springs Resort is set, and I think you will find it to be a wonderful location. The conference facilities are outstanding and the food is second to none. In addition to this, all of the rooms we have blocked are suites for the price of regular rooms. Bob Walls has put together an outstanding educational program, and I think your drive to southern West Virginia will be well worth it.
On behalf of the Neal family, I would like to thank you for your hard work, your friendship and memories that will last a lifetime.
