Greetings CBD Members and Guest,
I want to first and foremost welcome you to our website and Association! Please look around as you will find a plethora of resources to aide in your respective forensic disciplines. The Chesapeake Bay Division has diversified in the last few years, not only with the content of our lectures and workshops, but with our membership demographic as well.
Our Spring 2016 Educational Conference at the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA has now past and wow, what a turn out! The combination of family fun and engaging conference content made for a dynamic duo. I want to extend a special thank you to past president Linda McCall for the fantastic venue, Kelly Ayers for the speakers/workshops and Chris Claytor for our vendor’s. I also want to thank Secretary/Treasurer Jessica Landi and all CBD Officers, committee members and past presidents for their continued hard work and dedication.
Roughly two years ago the CBD went from having two conferences a year to one; the change came at a time when budget cuts and government cut-backs made it difficult for members to receive funding for two events. Cutting back to one educational conference in the spring, I made the suggestion to implement a one-day seminar hosted in collaboration with a local college/university. We have since been hosted at George Mason University as well as The George Washington University. I’m happy to announce that October 15, 2016 we will be partnering with the Pennsylvania State Division IAI to host a trilling one-day seminar at West Virginia State University. The partnership with PSD-IAI will undoubtedly increase awareness of both organizations, expanding the wide reach CBD already has. The forensic science disciplines are quite collaborative in nature and I welcome this partnership among organizations.
I would like to encourage all of you to attend our upcoming seminar as well as spring educational conference which will be held April 21-22, 2017 at the Frederick Holiday Inn, MD. I have secured a vibrant speaker to deliver the Keynote Address: Dr. P. Michael Murphy, former Coroner for the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner and current Program Manager at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Please check out the CBD website for the conference agenda and social events. These upcoming events promise to be both highly educational and social (as networking and communicating with others should not be overlooked). Please be sure to share your thoughts and experiences with any of the current CBD Officers.
I am looking forward to meeting and speaking with each of you. Safe travels and see you there!
Kindest Regards,
Rebecca Wood - President
