April 2019
It is my great honor to address you as the 58th President of the CBD-IAI. I still remember attending my first CBD-IAI conference in Ocean City, MD, in 2005. Since that conference the CBD-IAI has continuously been my primary source of continuing education and networking. With that being said, the most important thing the CBD-IAI has provided me over the last 14 years is support. I never expected to meet my best friends and future husband when I attended that first conference. Nor did I expect to see President next to my name. But here I stand as President excited to see what relationships develop over the years to come.
Some new relationships have already started thanks to Chairperson Chris Claytor, who successfully planned an outstanding 2019 Spring Educational Conference that was just held in Richmond, VA. Another huge thanks to 1st Vice President Dani O’Neill who lined up an amazing set of speakers to educate our students and members. We had 13 vendors in attendance thanks to 2nd Vice President John Flores and 1st Vice President Dani O’Neill. These vendors shared their products and sponsored many of our events, such as the photo booth and escape rooms. Additionally, many thanks go out to the committee members that work behind the scenes throughout the year. The committee members dedicate their time to review by-laws, plan student activities, outreach on social media, and publish the CBD Examiner. As you read this address on our newly redesigned CBD-IAI website, I must thank our webmaster Da-il Kim for all of his time and dedication to creating a website to meet our organizational needs. Check back often for new features as the year progressions. The biggest thank you goes to the Secretary/Treasurer of the CBD-IAI, Jessica Landi. She works tirelessly in these two roles throughout the year. Without her this organization would not function as seamlessly as it does. Thank you Jessica!
At the 2019 Spring Conference a few new faces have joined the CBD-IAI family. I would like to welcome 3rd Vice President Mallory McCormick as well as new Board Members Marguerite Honig and Corey Bartoe. Numerous committees will also have new members. Check out our website the ‘About Us’ section of the website to see all the members. Lastly, welcome to the many new student members and members have joined us. I look forward to the seeing what each new individual can bring to the CBD-IAI over the 2019-2020 year.
The 2019 Fall Semester will be held Saturday, October 12th at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, MD. 1st Vice President Dani O’Neill is currently working on the details which will be released soon on the website. We will also be working hard throughout the year to plan the 2020 Spring Conference to be held in Gettysburg, PA. It will be a historical site to reflect on the past of the United States and forensics while learning for the future. More information will be released on the website once available. I personally invite each of you to join us in Gettysburg, PA.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or another member with questions or suggestions. The CBD-IAI strives for excellence. Thank you for this great opportunity to represent the CBD-IAI as President.
Sincerely,
Shelly Brazelle, CBD-IAI President
