Student Outreach

The student development committee of the CBD-IAI has instituted some programs and initiatives designed to enhance the participation of, and benefit to, students who choose to participate in our organization.

Poster Presentation and Contest: We encourage students, interns, and members who are conducting new research, expanding on existing scientific ideas, or supporting the foundation of the identification sciences to present their scientific results or literature reviews. This contest is the perfect opportunity to educate others on work currently being conducted in forensic science. The presentation and contest is held at the Annual CBDIAI Educational Conference. Presentations should include a two to five-minute oral presentation demonstrating the poster. Participants should also be prepared to answer questions from poster judges and conference attendees. Submission of application and more information about the poster presentation and contest will be announced close to the next conference date.

Student Lunch Session: The agenda for the spring conference will include a special sponsored lunch session with presentations of student interest. Be sure to register in the next upcoming conference!

Oral Presentations: The committee also encourages students to submit presenter forms to be considered for the general session agenda at either the fall seminar or spring educational conference. The submission form will be uploaded close to the seminar or conference date on the conference page of our website.

Chesapeake Examiner: Please consider submitting your written work for publication in the official magazine of the CBD-IAI. Instructions for submission and contact information for our Editor can be found on the Resources page.

Our goal is to create a section of the CBD-IAI website that is exclusive to members, outlining a list of agencies that accept volunteers/interns. Since this is exclusive information to members, the internships and volunteers section can be accessed once you login using your CBDIAI ID and Password. Scholarships and Student Resources

The George H. Robinson Memorial Scholarship fund is a scholarship program for the recognition of forensic science and criminal justice students. Each year, students may be selected to receive a scholarship grant and a certificate of recognition. The awards shall be presented at the Spring Educational Conferences of the Chesapeake Bay Division – I.A.I.

The International Association for Identification offers its Johnson-Whyte Foundation, whose purpose is to provide grants for researchers and scholarships for students who are seeking education and employment within the forensic identification community, and to promote the advancement of forensic identification as a profession on an international basis. The monetary amount of funds available in any given year for research grants and scholarships will be determined annually by the Trustees and will be based only on the income earned from investments during the previous year.

George H. Robinson Memorial Scholarship Application

Eligibility:
Applicants who wish to apply shall have the following requirements:

Full-time undergraduate student entering at least their sophomore year

OR
Full or part time graduate student

Enrolled in a forensic science or criminal justice program at an accredited college or university with an intended career path within forensic science or criminal justice
Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale

If enrolled in summer classes, the updated transcript needs to be submitted after summer classes are completed.
Note: Scholarship fund trustees and members of the immediate family of trustees are not eligible.

Application Instructions:
Before submitting the application, the following documents are required:

Section A is an online application form and shall be filled out in its entirety. As part of this application,
the below questions must be answered:

What is your motivation for applying for this scholarship?
What are your educational and career goals?
Describe your interest in the field of forensic science and/or criminal justice and provide details of your involvement in any projects, research, personal or professional experience, internships, organizations or clubs, etc.
Please provide any additional information you feel is valuable for the CBD-IAI to consider when reviewing your application.

Section B of the application requires the applicant to submit their most recent transcript of all
completed undergraduate and/or graduate coursework.

Section C of the application requires the submission of three letters of recommendation, one of which
must be from a faculty member. The committee recommends obtaining the three letters from various
sources to demonstrate a versatile portfolio.

The scholarship recipient will be announced at the upcoming Educational Conference.
